Two new non-executive directors join MHRA board

Two new non-executive directors were appointed to the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency’s non-executive board on 24 September 2008.  Professors Barrington Furr OBE and Vincent Lawton CBE will join the board for four years, where their main responsibility is to give advice on the strategic development of the Agency and ensure its targets are met.

Prof Furr worked for 33 years in ICI’s legacy companies Zeneca and AstraZeneca until his retirement in 2005.  He is now non-executive director of Genus, a livestock genetics company, and a William Pitt fellow at Pembroke College, Cambridge.  Prof Lawton retired from Merck Sharp & Dohme UK (MSD) Ltd in 2006, where he was managing director and vice president Europe.  He also served as president of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry between 2004 and 2006.
