Bavarian Nordic A/S, a Denmark-based vaccine company, has appointed Tarja Stenvall as president and chief executive officer, succeeding Paul Chaplin whose departure was announced earlier in 2026. Ms Stenvall brings 20 years of leadership from Sanofi SA, AstraZeneca Plc and Pfizer Inc , with a track record of building and transforming life science businesses at scale.
She was most recently senior vice president and head of global franchise for diabetes and cardiovascular diseases at Sanofi, and also was vice president for vaccines in Latin America where she secured Sanofi’s largest global private-public partnership. Ms Stenvall holds a degree in economics from Aalto University (formerly the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration), Finland and an MBA in international business from the University of South Carolina, US.
