Michael Friedman, chief executive of City of Hope, an independent US cancer research institute, has been elected to the board of Celgene Corporation. Dr Friedman is a former executive of the Pharmacia Corporation (now Pfizer) and former chief medical officer for biomedical preparedness at the US industry association, PhRMA. He also previously served as deputy commissioner for the US Food and Drug Administration, later serving as acting commissioner and as associate director of the National Cancer Institute.
