Kent Woods becomes new EMA chair

Kent Woods, chief executive of the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), has been elected as chair of the management board of the European Medicines Agency. The appointment is for a period of three years. He succeeds Pat O’Mahony, chief executive of the Irish Medicines Board.

Mr Kent joined the MHRA in 2004, and since that time, he has also been an EMA board member. Previously he was director of the UK National Health Service Health Technology Assessment Programme. Mr Woods has a background in academic medicine and also holds a Master of Science degree in epidemiology.
