Karel Boone has been named chairman of the Board of Directors of the Belgian biopharmaceutical group, UCB SA, effective 24 April 2008. Mr Boone has been an independent director since 2000 and in his new role, he will replace Georges Jacobs who is retiring.
Three candidates have also been nominated for the board. They are, Thomas Leysen, CEO of Umicore and next chairman of the Federation of Belgian Companies; Jean-Pierre Kinet, a professor at the Harvard Institute of Medicine and at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Armand De Decker, president of the Belgian Senate.
