Ipsen appoints an American as its chief executive

The French specialty pharmaceutical company, Ipsen SA, has appointed an American executive, David Meek, as its new chief executive officer, succeeding Marc de Garidel. Mr de Garidel will continue to serve on the board of directors as a non-executive chairman.

Mr Meek was most recently head of the oncology division at Baxalta Inc, a 2015 spinout of Baxter International Inc. Baxalta was recently acquired by Shire Plc. Mr Meek has also held senior positions at Johnson & Johnson Inc and Novartis. From 2012 to 2014 he was chief commercial officer of Endocyte Inc, a US oncology company.

His appointment was announced on 11 July 2016.
