The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), an intergovernmental organization for stimulating scientific innovation in the European Union, has elected Alexander von Gabain as chairman of its governing board, effective 15 September 2011. He will succeed Martin Schuurmans, the organisation’s first chairman.
A co-founder of the Austrian vaccine developer, Intercell AG, Dr von Gabain is a professor of microbiology at the Max Perutz Laboratories of the University of Vienna and foreign adjunct professor at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.
