David Kaufman, chief medical officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute, has joined the board of directors of Hookipa Pharma Inc to help guide development of its immunotherapeutics for infectious diseases and cancers. Dr Kaufman is also a member of the board of the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer, a non-profit group whose goal is to improve outcomes for cancer patients.
Prior to joining the Gates’ Institute, Dr Kaufman held several leadership positions at Merck Research Laboratories including as head of translational oncology, executive director in clinical oncology and associate director of the Merck drug development and leadership programme. He holds a PhD in molecular virology and immunology from The Rockefeller University and received his medical degree from the Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University.
Hookipa announced the appointment on 25 April 2019.
