Bruce Burlington becomes a non-executive director at AstraZeneca

Bruce Burlington, a former official with the US Food and Drug Administration, has joined the board of directors of AstraZeneca Plc as a non-executive director, effective 1 August 2010.

Dr Burlington is currently a consultant, and a member of the scientific advisory boards of the International Medica Foundation and of H. Lundbeck A/S.

But for 17 years until 1999, he held senior positions at the FDA including that of director, Center for Devices and Radiological Health and three senior positions in the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. These included, acting director, Office of Generic Drugs; deputy director, Office of Drug Evaluation II, and acting deputy director of medical affairs. Between 1999 and 2007 he held a series of senior executive positions at Wyeth, which is now part of Pfizer.
