The US unit of Chugai Pharmaceutical Co Ltd has named Athos Gianella-Borradori as its chief medical officer. Chugai is a member of the Roche group of Switzerland. Dr Gianella-Borradori is a paediatric haematologist-oncologist and executive with more than 20 years of drug research and development experience. He has held senior positions at Novartis, Crucell (Johnson & Johnson Inc), the German unit of Bavarian Nordic A/S, and Merck Serono (Merck KGaA).
Dr Gianella-Borradori earned his medical degree at the University of Bern and has practiced at university hospitals in both Switzerland and the US.
Chugai announced the appointment on 25 April 2014.
