AstraZeneca has appointed Baroness Shriti Vadera to its board as a non-executive director, effective 1 January 2011.
Baroness Vadera has a background in advisory work at SG Warburg/UBS and has had a series of ministerial positions in the UK government. In the last Labour government, she was parliamentary under-secretary of state for economic competitiveness and enterprise in the Cabinet office.
Born to an Indian family in Uganda, Baroness Vadera was educated in Britain and read politics, philosophy and economics at Oxford.
