Actelion has nominated the former GlaxoSmithKline chief executive, Jean-Pierre Garnier, to join its board of directors with a view to his becoming chairman in 2012. Mr Garnier was most recently CEO of Laboratories Pierre Fabre in France. Prior to joining GSK, he was president of the US business of Schering-Plough (Merck & Co).
Actelion has also nominated Robert Bertolini, a former chief financial officer of Schering-Plough to the board. An accountant, Mr Bertolini has extensive experience in audit, financial controls and corporate governance.
Shareholders will be invited to elect both nominees at a meeting on 5 May 2011.
