The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry has appointed Stephen Whitehead, formerly communications director at Prudential Plc, as its new chief executive, effective 1 June 2011. Mr Whitehead will succeed Richard Barker who will be stepping down from this role on 25 May.
In addition to his most recent role with the Prudential, Mr Whitehead has also held senior leadership positions at Barclays Plc and Allied Domecq Plc. Earlier in his career he worked at Glaxo (now GlaxoSmithKline) and Eli Lilly.
