Carsten Hellmann, formerly executive vice president for global sales at Chr. Hansen Holding A/S of Denmark, has joined Sanofi SA to lead the company’s animal health division, Merial. Mr Hellmann will also sit on the company’s executive committee. A Danish citizen, he has held executive positions across the medical equipment, human health and food and dairy ingredients sectors. He holds a first degree in business administration and an MSc in information management and technology. He will replace Jose Barella who is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.
Concurrently, Sanofi announced the promotion of David Meeker, currently chief executive of Genzyme and a member of the global leadership team, to the executive committee as executive vice president, Genzyme.
Both appointments will take effect on 1 September 2013.
