Niklas Blomberg, an experienced healthcare executive, has been named executive director of the European Union’s Innovative Health Initiative (IHI), effective early 2024. The IHI is a public-private partnership dating from 2008 which started as a project to support pharmaceutical innovation and now has a broader healthcare mandate. Dr Blomberg is currently director of ELIXIR, a European project that is building a network for storing and sharing biological data. Prior to this, he was a research scientist at AstraZeneca in Sweden. Dr Blomberg holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, and a PhD in structural biology and bioinformatics from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany.
The IHI announced the appointment on 26 June 2023.
