Flemming Ornskov, an executive at Bayer AG, has been named chief executive-designate of Shire Plc, effective 2 January 2013. He will replace Angus Russell who is retiring after 13 years with Shire and 32 years in the pharmaceutical industry.
Dr Ornskov will assume his full responsibilities as CEO on 30 April, the date of the next Shire annual general meeting.
Dr Flemming is currently chief marketing officer and global head, strategic marketing for general and specialty medicine, at Bayer where he oversees the full pharmaceutical portfolio with sales in excess of €10 billion.
Shire announced the appointment on 25 October 2012.
