The Princeton University professor, Bryan Grenfell, is to join the board of governors of the Wellcome Trust in September in order to advise the charity on international health issues. Prof Grenfell is a population biologist who has a joint appointment at the Woodrow Wilson School and the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Princeton. His research focuses on the epidemiology, evolution and vaccination control of infections such as measles and influenza. He has advised both the UK government and the World Health Organization on the mathematical modeling and control of a variety of infectious diseases.

Also joining the board is Tobias Bonhoeffer, director of the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology and professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Germany.

The Wellcome Trust announced the appointments on 7 July 2014.
