Russell Thirsk, an experienced vaccine executive, is to join Bavarian Nordic A/S on 1 April as chief operating officer to help the company advance its wholly-owned vaccine pipeline. He will join from GlaxoSmithKline Plc where he has served as head of vaccine operations in Belgium since 2016. Prior to this he held senior positions at Novartis in both the US and Switzerland, becoming head of global technical operations in 2011. He joined GSK when the UK company acquired Novartis’ vaccines business.
Mr Thirsk holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Nottingham, UK.
Bavarian Nordic announced the appointment on 19 January 2022.
