Carolyn Compton, a senior scientist, has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the Critical Path Institute (C-Path) in Tucson, Arizona, US, taking over from the institute’s founder, Raymond Woosley. Dr Compton was most recently executive director of the Cancer Human Biobank project at the National Cancer Institute. She received her MD and PhD degrees from the Harvard Medical School and the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and is internationally recognised for her work in the areas of translational science and personalised medicine.  

The C-Path Institute is a non-profit organisation set up in 2005 to investigate ways of improving the process of drug development. The Food and Drug Administration is an advisor to the institute.
