Andreas Pott to become EMA’s acting executive director

The European Medicines Agency has announced that Andreas Pott, its current head of administration, will serve as the agency’s acting executive director from 1 January 2011.

The EMA is now in the process of recruiting a permanent executive director to replace Thomas Lönngren, who leaves the post on 31 December 2010, following the end of his second five-year mandate. Those wishing to apply for the job have until 24 November 2010 to submit their applications to the European Commission but the process will not be completed by the time of Mr. Lönngren’s departure. Mr. Pott used to work in the European Parliament and has been the EMA’s head of administration since May 2000. He holds a masters degree in political science, history and English from the University of Hamburg, as well as a Certificat de Hautes Etudes Européennes in economics from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.
