Geoffrey McDonough, a senior Genzyme Corp (now Sanofi) executive, has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Swedish Orphan Biovitrum AB effective 15 August 2011. He will succeed Kennet Rooth, who has been the acting chief executive since 1 January. Dr McDonough is a graduate of the Harvard Medical School and holds a BA and BSc from the University of North Carolina. Prior to holding several leading positions at Genzyme, including that of president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, he worked as a medical doctor and an advisor for RA Capital Management.
