Shire Plc has appointed Mario Saltarelli as senior vice president of clinical development and medical affairs. He joins the company from Abbott Laboratories where he served as divisional vice president for global neuroscience and anesthesia products. Concurrently, Shire appointed Lawson Macartney, a former GlaxoSmithKline Plc executive, as senior vice president of its emerging business unit. Dr Macartney will be responsible for the early pipeline and development efforts of Shire’s speciality pharmaceuticals business.
