Motlalepula Matsabisa chosen to lead Covid-19 group

Motlalepula Matsabisa, a professor at the University of the Free State in South Africa, has been chosen by the World Health Organization to lead a new group to oversee research and clinical trials for the application of traditional medicines to treat Covid-19. Prof Matsabisa holds a PhD in pharmacology and the focus of his research is on the discovery and development of new drugs based on traditional and herbal African treatments. The appointment is expected to last for the duration of the pandemic.

The WHO announced the appointment on3 June 2021.
