Merck Serono, the biopharmaceutical division of Merck KGaA, has appointed Belén Garijo as chief operating officer, and Annalisa Jenkins as global head of drug development, effective September 2011. Dr Garijo was previously senior vice president of global operations of the European region at Sanofi SA. Dr Jenkins was senior vice president of global medical at Bristol-Myers Squibb Inc. Both executives are moving into newly created positions at Merck Serono and will report to Stefan Oschmann, president of the company.
