Eli Lilly and Company has announced that John C. Lechleiter, president and chief operating officer, will assume the role of president and chief executive officer of the company from 1 April 2008. This will follow the retirement of Sidney Taurel, CEO and chairman of the board of directors. Mr Taurel will remain board chairman until 31 December 2008.
Mr Lechleiter joined Lilly in 1979 and worked in senior positions in the US and in Europe before becoming executive vice president of pharmaceutical operations in early 2004.
