Shire Plc has appointed Jeff Jonas to the position of president of regenerative medicine, replacing Kevin Rakin, who will be leaving the company. Dr Jonas, who is a medical doctor, joined Shire in July 2008 as leader of its specialty pharmaceuticals research and development team. He has been closely involved with the company’s regenerative medicines business dating from the acquisition of Advanced BioHealing Inc in June 2011.
Prior to joining Shire, Dr Jonas was an executive vice president at Isis Pharmaceuticals Inc, and before that, chief medical officer at Forest Laboratories Inc.
Shire announced the appointment on 15 November 2012.
