Hans Wijers, chairman designate of Heineken NV, has been appointed a non-executive director of GlaxoSmithKline Plc, effective 1 April 2013. The appointment is subject to shareholder approval at the company’s annual general meeting. Besides his role at Heineken, Mr Wijers is also deputy chairman and non-executive director of Royal Dutch Shell. Previously he was the chief executive and chairman of Akzo Nobel NV, a producer of specialty chemicals. GSK announced the appointment on 24 January 2013.
