The Biotechnology Industry Organization has elected H. Thomas Watkins as chairman of its board of directors for the term 2011-2012. He succeeds Stephen Sherwin, chief executive of Cell Genesys Inc.
Mr Watkins is president and chief executive of Human Genome Sciences, Inc (HGS),He jointed HGS in 2004; prior to that he was an executive at Abbott Laboratories.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
