Genentech appoints Jennifer Doudna to new research position

Genentech Inc has appointed Jennifer A. Doudna, an expert in the structure and function of ribonucleic acids (RNAs), to the new position of vice president, discovery research. A former professor at the University of California at Berkeley, Ms Doudna will oversee Genentech’s departments of protein chemistry and structural biology. She will be a member of the company’s small molecule drug discovery senior leadership team and will participate in therapeutic RNA discovery efforts.

Prior to working at Berkeley, Ms Doudna was Henry Ford II Professor in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University.

She obtained her PhD in biochemistry from Harvard University and did postdoctoral work in molecular biology at Massachusetts General Hospital, in genetics at the Harvard Medical School and in biomedical science at the University of Colorado.
