Fergus Sweeney appointed head of inspections at the EMEA

Fergus Sweeney has been appointed head of inspections at the European Medicines Agency, replacing Emer Cooke who has become the agency’s international liaison officer.

Dr Sweeney, who holds a PhD in pharmacology from University College Dublin, joined the agency’s inspections sector in 1999 where he assumed responsibility for coordination of good clinical practice (GCP) and pharmacovigilance inspections. He has been closely involved in the development of procedures and guidance in these areas, and is chair of the GCP inspectors and pharmacovigilance inspectors working groups. Prior to joining the agency, Dr Sweeney worked in the pharmaceutical industry.
