Sanofi SA has announced the appointment of David Meeker as chief executive officer of Genzyme, which was acquired by the French multinational in April 2011. Dr Meeker was Genzyme’s chief operating officer, and led the development of treatments for a number of rare diseases. In his new position, he will join the group management committee and will report to the Sanofi CEO, Christopher Viehbacher.
Dr Meeker received his MD from the University of Vermont Medical School and completed an advanced programme in management at the Harvard Business School in 2000.
